Electronic Equipment and Tournaments (2025)
2025 Policy
This policy was in place in 2025. For more information (what we can share), read the letter to leagues and families.
We have not made any decisions yet around 2026 policies. Stay tuned.
Electronic Equipment cannot be attached to any fence at any tournament
We cannot go into details about incidents that have happened in the district that led us to this decision. Please understand that we did not come to this decision lightly. The following statement is all we will be making:
District 9 will not tolerate hate speech or abuse in any form
We will not facilitate the propagation of hate speech and abuse
Exception for GameChanger streaming
We understand that teams want to share their team’s excitement with family members and friends. The presidents of district 9 have proposed, and the district has adopted, a procedure to allow electronics to be attached to a fence in order to stream the game to GameChanger. There are specific steps that have to be taken for this to happen. Please see Streaming Guide. This process ensures transparency between the league and the district around the use of GameChanger video and chats. We have used this for many games across different tournaments and it is working well.
NOTE: Please remember that when you add the district GC accounts, they need to be added as Family and not just Fan. Please see adding family contact for detailed instructions.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I want to stream from the left/right field out of play area, from beyond the home run fence, or from the bleachers?
This is fine with or without going through the above process as long as you don’t interfere with others. If you are in the outfield, be sure you are not in the batter’s eye
What if I want to stream to a different GameChanger team?
Each stream must be associated with a GameChanger team, and that team must have the district accounts added as outlined in the link above. The staff will be spot checking streams at the tournament, and if a device is attached to a fence and the stream can’t be seen by the staff, we will ask that you remove the device.
Can I take pictures or video of my player batting, etc?
Absolutely! As always, we ask that you not interfere with other fans and that you don’t disturb the game in progress, but you are more than welcome to capture those precious moments!
What does “attached to a fence” include?
As you can expect, we have had some people try to follow the string “letter” of the rule, so here’s what is not allowed (without the above exception):
- Attaching to a fence any electronic device with any kind of mounting or strapping (including zip-ties or rubber bands or bungee cord or similar). This includes all fences: behind home plate, along 1st and 3rd base lines, and the extended fence beyond the dugout.
- Leaning a device or placing a device unattended (i.e. not holding the device) against any of these fences or in the immediate vicinity of these fences. This includes the use of a tripod, bipod, or monopod
Yes, its disappointing that we have to keep adding to this list as we encounter “but you didn’t say we couldn’t do *this* specifically.”
